Number 10 Royal Terrace

Number 10 Royal Terrace was the eleventh and last house in the terrace, located at the west end of the block, overlooking the River Thames.

The first resident at this house was Thomas Howard, 3rd Earl of Effingham (1746-91), Deputy Earl-Marshal of England. In 1783-85 it was home to Sir Richard Colt Hoare (1753-1838), the banker and historian; in 1820-21 Henry Nugent Bell (1792-1822), a genealogist; in 1891-96 the Crichton Club, in 1897-1927 part of the house was leased by Miss Payne Townshend (later Mrs Bernard Shaw); and another part was leased in 1897-1900 by the London School of Economics.
