Curatorial note
The body of the vase, either side of the fillet moulding formed by incised lines flanking either side of the name plate, is enriched with highly stylized acanthus foliage; the bottom of the bowl is carved with convex fluting.
Inscribed:
M.A. (VRELIVS.L.C.PLERIS.IVN); The letters in parenthesis are partly restored.

XXIV P.AELIVS.AGATHOPIANVS.TVTOR FECIT
1929 photos show the urn with a more ornate lid, now lost. The object was photographed in 1986 with a different lid, which in 1929 was on M929 and in 1975 was back on M929.
