Curatorial note
Soane always had always possessed the highest regard for Inigo Jones’s Banqueting House. As a student he was awarded the Royal Academy’s Silver Medal in 1772 for a measured drawing of it. Towards the end of his career in 1828, he was responsible for refacing the façade and repairing the roof. This model and numbers M1216 and M1217 were produced to show the original structure of the roof together with the means adopted to strengthen the original trusses.
