Number 3, John Street

Number 3, John Street

Number 3 John Street was located on the southern side of the street, towards the eastern end of the block. The four eastern most houses in this block – including number 3 – were converted into the Adelphi Hotel. Fifteen chimneypieces from the Adelphi hotel were sold at auction in 1936, prior to its demolition.

Number 3 had been the home of Antonio Zucchi, the decorative painter who worked for the Adam office, and produced numerous medallions for the buildings in the Adelphi. Zucchi remained in England until 1781, when he and his wife, Angelica Kauffman, returned to Italy.
