Record copies of working drawings for the staircase, 18 December 1789 - 20 February 1790 (2)

The principal staircase is a half-turn with landings type of stair and has a handsome curtail lowest step. In drawing 30 the rectangular ceiling is marked out by an ellipse, and the plasterer is warned not to mistake this for a raised ceiling with spandrels - as in the hall. The three covered ways shown on drawing 29 are on the three sides of a courtyard to the north and give access to the domestic offices.

Soane's 'Journal No 1' has an entry (1788) 'Sent pr Post Sections of Both stair-cases', and (15 January 1789) sent 'Section of best Staircase'. Clearly, revisions were made at, it is presumed, Mr Fellowes's request.
