Designs for a chimneypiece for the round drawing room, 1766, unexecuted (2)
Notes
While this scheme for the round drawing room chimneypiece was not realised, the executed scheme is similar to it (Adam volume 22/229). Both schemes are based on the Confessor’s tomb, and the Cosmati pavement at Westminster Abbey, although according to Stillman this earlier, unexecuted scheme is closer to the tomb than its classicised counterpart.
