Purpose

Preliminary design for the ceiling of the principal or great drawing room, 1774, unexecuted (1)

Notes

This ceiling was intended for the principal room of the house, shown on the plan of the principal (first) storey (Adam volume 49/10) at the front of the house, and inscribed as the Great Drawing Room. We can see that this is the same room, as Adam includes the position of the two doors leading into the Great Stairs and the Toilette. None of Adam's schemes for General FitzRoy were executed.
