Purpose
Preliminary design for Lady Stanley's circular closet grate, 1773-74; it is not known if this design was executed (1)
Notes
As the house was demolished in 1862, and this feature was not illustrated in The works in architecture of Robert and James Adam, it is not known if the closet grate was executed in accordane with Adam's extant design.
All of the grates in the house - save that made for the great drawing room - were executed by William Hopkins, but none survive, and nor do their accompanying chimneypieces.
