Working drawing for the Finishings to the Eating Room at Shottisham, 16 June 1789 (1)
Notes
Soane has added an instruction regarding the panelling, and this with the fold marks and staining suggests that the drawing was used on site. There is a reference to a red teint (tint, that is, colour wash), but this is not visible on the drawing.
The 'Eating Room' was located on the south-east side of the house and measures about 20 by 30 feet. This plan shows it as lit by one of the two tripartite windows of the south front; there is a blind window on the exterior of the east wall. The finishings are plain with simple panelling; over this panelling on the east and west walls a 'Circular Bead' moulding describes a segmental arc that spans the breadth of the room.
