Purpose

Working drawing for a chair back, possibly for the great drawing room (now the portico room), 1778. possibly executed (1)

Notes

Lea suggests that this working drawing may have been intended for a chair in great drawing room, as it is comparable to his design for the commode (Adam volume 17/35 and 17/43). Indeed there are similarities in ornamentation with the use of paterae, surrounded by oval wreaths of husks and a ribbon motif.
