Purpose
Preliminary designs for a proposed addition to the house, c1761-65, unexecuted (3)
Notes
Adam's first design for Brodsworth (Adam volumes 41/24-41/28) proposed that the house be entirely rebuilt, replacing the building purchased by Hay-Drummond's father, the 8th Earl of Kinnoull, in 1713. This second, more modest design comprises the addition of a wing. However, the wing was not executed, most likely because Hay-Drummond's attention was focused on his renovations at Bishopthorpe Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of York, undertaken by Thomas Atkinson in 1763-69.
