Purpose

Design for a window for the chapel, c1777-79, as executed (1)

Notes

Adam’s design for a painted glass window in the chapel at Alnwick was executed in accordance with his design, and was produced by James Pearson (c1740-1838) with gilding by John Wateridge (nd). According to King, the design was based on that of the heart (east) window from York Minster. The eighteenth-century chapel interior, along with the window, was demolished by Sir Anthony Salvin in the 1850s, and a new chapel was built as an extension to the keep.
