Curatorial note

Mourning Card issued after the burial of the first Curator of the Soane Museum, George Bailey, in Highgate Cemetery on 22 December 1860, following his death on 17 December, aged 68.

George Bailey was born in 1792. In August 1806 he entered Soane's office as an architectural pupil, remaining with him as an Assistant until his death. Bailey was enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools on 12th August 1813, when his age was recorded as 21 and his profession as Architect (Royal Academy Archives RAA/KEE/1/1/1/9, p. 9 - B, 1808-1817).
