Curatorial note
This small painting was attributed to Joseph Michael Gandy by the donors but is not typical of J. M. Gandy's work. Margaret Richardson (Curator of Sir John Soane's Museum 1995-2005) speculated that it might be the work of Peter John Gandy-Deering, J. M. Gandy's youngest brother (1787-1850).
By descent through the Gandy family. Given to the Museum by Mrs. Lucienne Gandy, widow of Charles Gandy, 1951.
