Pedestal desk, early nineteenth-century

Mahogany-veneered oak

Museum number: XF93

Curatorial note

With two sets of three drawers either side of the knee-hole, with sloping bureau top and interior fitted out with pigeon holes and drawers. Its lock is stamped ‘patent lever V R and near the lock is the maker’s label W. PRIEST, 17 & 24 Water Street, Black Friars. This desk was not part of Soane's collection and almost certainly belonged to first Curator, George Bailey (Curator 1837-1860) and at which he presumably worked.
