Curatorial note

With four drawers; each drawer front bordered by a cock bead and with two brass drop-handles with circular ‘flower’ shaped back-plates; each drawer with a keyhole but all the escutcheons missing; lopers on each side of the top drawer, with small brass ring handles, pull out to support the slope. The interior of the desk was originally fitted with 7 narrow pigeonholes (3 upright dividers are now missing); there was originally a central large drawer beneath the three centre pigeonholes (now missing; this drawer was flanked each side by an arrangement of two small drawers above a single drawer; all the surviving drawers have their original small shaped brass drop handles

Probably the ‘mahogany bureau with 4 large and 7 small drawers’, which was in the north Attic in 1837.
