Curatorial note

With single drawer, set on a moulded base, and with ball finial to the screw; two knobs missing from the drawer.

The measurements of this press agree with those given in the 1837 inventory for the press which stood in the kitchen (2 ft 2 in by 1 ft 4 in). There was another ‘small napkin press’ in one of the Attic rooms in 1837. Mrs. Soane purchased a napkin press for Pitzhanger in 1804, which may be this one.1
