Curatorial note
Made for Soane for the Library-Dining Room, ground floor, 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields in 1823. This small piece lay between two larger carpets, aligned east-west: according to an assessement in 1919 this piece was cut from the larger carpet made for the Dining-Room. It remained in situ until 2005 when it was replaced with a replica manfactured by David Bamford and sponsored by Deborah Loeb Brice.
The image is cropped from a photograph showing the Library-Dining Room in 1991 with the runner in situ, partially covered by the green baize over the Axminster in the Dining Room.
