Curatorial note

With plain reeded top and plain tapering legs on brass castors; on one side two drawers flank a central dummy drawer and on the other side this is reversed with a central functional drawer being flanked by two dummy drawers; all the drawers have large replacement wooden knobs; the drawer fronts bordered by cock beads; brass-lined keyholes to dummy and working drawers.

This table appears in the 1837 inventory as ‘1 Mahogany table with 2 drawers in one side, and one on the other’ and at that time was in the large front Attic.1

1 By the early twentieth century it had been moved down to the drawing rooms where it is shown in photographs of c. 1911 in use for the display of rare books etc. in showcases.
