Curatorial note
With upper shelf supported by four columns in the form of clustered reeds or fasces with plain collars above and below.
This stand, almost identical to XF26 and XF27 but shorter and wider, and perhaps somewhat less elegant than the taller pair, stands in the centre of the west wall of Soane’s Model Room supporting François Fouquet's model of a monument at Palmyra, Syria, 'restored', (MR34). The four stands XF26, XF27, XF35 and XF104 are supremely elegant examples of Soane at his most restrained and ‘primitivist’.
In 2015 this model stand was reinstated in its original position as part of Phase 2 of Opening up the Soane.
