Curatorial note

A number of variants of plaster nike or 'victory' figures, winged female figures which bear a distinct resemblance to angels, were supplied to Soane for use as ornamental decorative elements at 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields. They occur in relief in the four spandrels of the central Dome at the back of the Museum as well as here, high up in the Breakfast Room, where they are on display with a cast of a celebrated ancient Roman bronze 'Victory'. Other plaster examples can be found in the Dome Area and Monk's Parlour.
