Piece of Soane period 'diaper glass' in lead frame

Museum number: X1618

Not on display

Curatorial note

This panel was leaded and has clearly been installed in a window: it is the only surviving panel of original 'embossed' glass, as the 1837 AB inventory calls it, to survive. This panel was used by Philip Crook as his model for that recreated for the Picture Room Recess window 2000. Screen-printed glass as used. This panel was used again by Chapel Studios as the model when they recreated this pattern by hand for the replacement glass for the NDR windows (replaced Phil's modern screen-printed version) and for the new glass for the recreated Bath Room and Bed Room windows on the second flloor 2014-15. It took Rachel at Chapels several months to make the glass, etching it painstakingly day after day.
