Curatorial note

Tobias kneels before his father Tobit to receive his blessing while the angel Raphael watches with outstretched wings. Behind Tobit a donkey is being saddled and Tobias’s dog waits to accompany his master. A path leads away to the right through wooded countryside.

The story of the blind Tobit and the restoration of his sight by his son Tobias, after a series of adventures accompanied by the angel Raphael, comes from the Old Testament Apocrypha and was a popular theme in the Netherlands.

Possibly from the same workshop as Tobit blinded, SG76, in which the dog and figures of Tobit and Tobias are similarly characterised, although the overall format is different.
