Fragment of the 'Charity' window made for Sir John Soane's Tivoli Recess but destroyed during World War II

Stained glass

Museum number: SG74.A

Not on display

Curatorial note

This section of the border to the lower panel of the Tivoil Recess window was rediscovered in the Cast Store at the Museum in 2011 and was of vital importance in the reconstruction of the window by Keith Barley & Jonathan Cooke which was unveiled in early 2013. This fragment retained part of the frame of the window and provided the correct profile both of that metal frame and of the putty (as well as its colour) for the reconstruction.
