Curatorial note

Pilate sits upon a throne under a draped canopy, wearing a crown and holding a sceptre. To his left a High Priest wearing a Jewish mitre points to the figure of Christ who stands before them with hands raised. Part of the figure of Christ is missing, as well as other sections of the panel.

This panel forms a set with a similar scene of the birching of two men before Caiaphas, SG21, and a third panel with similar characteristics, SG19, another birching scene.
