In 1835 a gold medal was presented to Sir John Soane by 'the Architects of England' in recognition of his 'essential services to Architecture' and engraved by Wyon, the chief engraver to His Majesty's Mint. The front shows his profile taken from the Chantrey bust which is still in the Museum; the reverse features 'a portion of his favourite work', The Bank of England.
