Curatorial note

Draped female figure, with butterfly’s wings, half-kneeling, her l. hand to her face, her right arm across her left thigh.

Companion figure to Cupid (SC33) and presumably model for the marble which was exh. R A in 1824.
This and the companion figure of Cupid (SC33) were executed in marble for Samuel Rogers and the marbles were in his collection in 1836.

In 2012 this sculpture was reinstated in its original position in the recreated Tivoli Recess as part of Phase 2 of Opening up the Soane.
