Curatorial note
Christ on the cross with on the left Mary his mother and on the right a headless figure holding a book who is probably the figure of Saint John the Evangelist, described in the gospels as the disciple Jesus loved. Christ exhorted his mother from the cross to treat John as her son. At the corners of the decorative border are angelic heads.
