Curatorial note

This strip shows the full side of the left spandrel ornament in a loosely organised foliate acanthus scroll. Between the two loops and over the stem of the scroll an Eros kneels right in the foliage and tugs at the head of a goose with wings spread.

Provenance help-art-provenance

Rome; collected in Rome by Charles Heathcote Tatham for the architect Henry Holland during the 1790s. See Cornelius Vermeule, unpublished Catalogue of the Antiquities at Sir John Soane's Museum, Introduction, transcription of Tatham letters, List 2, no.77 (not 79).
