Joseph Michael Gandy ARA (1771 - 1843)
View of the Breakfast Room in a Villa at Ealing built by Sir John Soane in the years 1801-3
1802
Watercolour on paper
Museum number: P95
Not on display
This drawing is the pair to P94, another design perspective for interiors at John Soane's own country villa at Ealing, Pitzhanger Manor. Like its pair, it was produced before the completion of the Manor and its status as a design rather than an as-executed view is perhaps hinted at by the theatrial stage curtains with which the scene is framed. Both views feature Soane's beloved wife, Eliza, in the distance engaged in household tasks.
