Inscription: Painted by Vandyke [sic] Published January 31st 1783 by J. Dean No. 23 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden. Engraved by J. Dean CHRIST LYING ON STRAW IN A MANGER. From the original picture at Wilton House in the collection of the Earl of Pembroke [Thomas Herbert, 8th Earl of Pembroke], to whom this plate is respectfully inscribed by his Lordship’s oblg’d and obt servt. John Dean.

Curatorial note
The original painting of the Infant Christ, of which this is an engraving, is in the collection of the Earls of Pembroke at Wilton House, near Salisbury (WLN69560). It is catalogued today as School of Van Dyke.
