The work is dated 1829-30 but may have been completed by the time the frame was paid for in March 1830.

Provenance help-art-provenance

Commissioned by Soane in 1829. Soane commissioned this work after rejecting J.M.W. Turner's Forum Romanum for Mr. Soane's Museum which is now in the Tate.
