Curatorial note

If this beautiful and delicate drawing is indeed in Soane's own hand, as the 1837 inventories of the Museum assert, then it is a beautiful example of his very high standard of draughtsmanship and probably dates from his time as a student drawing from casts in the Royal Academy schools in the 1770s.
