Curatorial note

George Wyatt was Elizabeth Soane's uncle and became her guardian after the deaths of her parents. He was in the building trade and Surveyor of Paving in the City of London. It was through this work that he met John Soane and he was presumably responsible for introducing him to his future wife. Eliza Soane was George Wyatt's heir and the Soanes inherited his fortune on his death in 1790.
