Curatorial note

Soane produced his design for a British Senate House while in Rome on his grand tour in 1779. He hung this plan of the Senate House, a later re-drawing by his pupil and chief clerk George Bailey, in his North Drawing Room, paired with a bird's-eye view of the same building (SM P254).
