Curatorial note

A Dutch landscape depicting a figure on the bank of a river. Soane believed that this painting was by Jacob van Ruisdael (it appears to bear his signature which is now believed to be a fake). The painting was later attributed to Roelof de Vries, a close follower of Ruysdael in Haarlem. However the attribution to Cornelis Decker (by Professor Seymour Slive) seems more reliable.
