Curatorial note
This carving of a crown is probably medieval and may well have been salvaged by John Soane from the old Palace of Westminster, where he worked at different points between the 1790s and the 1820s.
It depicts a medieval crown, possibly one of the English crown jewels melted down by Cromwell in the mid-16th century. The design, with alternating garter stars and French fleur-de-lys
