Curatorial note
Full Scale. Stone. This ornament a shell between the volutes of its two scrolls, was first used by Soane in the Attic of Bullion Gateway in 1796. It also occurred in the attic above the western gate of the extended Lothbury front of 1802-05 above the Princes Street entrance of 1802-05 and was used to cap the attic projections of the ‘Tivoli’ corner of 1805 (see model MP225).
