Curatorial note
This bust is by an unknown sculptor and was probably acquired by Soane at around the time of the construction of the Monk's Yard in 1824-25. Portraits show that the Duke gradually lost his hair and was almost completely bald on top with curly hair remaining only on the sides of his head from the early 1820s. Comparisons of portraits with this bust indicate a date of c.1825.
