A capital of a Corinthian column formerly in the exterior of the Bank of England, designed by George Sampson or Sir Robert Taylor
Carved oolitic stone
Museum number: MY17
Curatorial note
This capital is another example of Soane's acquisition of fragments from the sites that he worked on, this time from the Bank of England. The capital is used on top of an arcade formed by medieval window openings from the Palace of Westminster and supports a bust of the Duke of York.
