Curatorial note
Model MR38 was identified as a design for the Simeon Monument by Bailey in his 1837 Inventory. He described it as the ‘Model of the Pedestal of the Obelisk erected in the Market place at Reading by Edward Simeon Esqre. 1804. Wood.’ The few drawings for the Reading obelisk, however, provide no evidence.
