Curatorial note
Scale ¾ft to 1in. During September 1806 Soane produced alternative designs for a monumental tomb to Samuel Bosanquet in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin, Leyton, Essex (now in the London Borough of Waltham Forest). Of the four versions in model form, MP217, represented by drawings dated 4 September (40/6/35 and 40/6/36), comes closest to the executed design. Soane was also to consider one of the side elevations of Version ’A’ for the de Loutherbourg monument in Chiswick in 1812 (drawing 6/5). The Bosanquet monument was demolished in 1957.
