Curatorial note
The head of this full-bearded male figure is crowned with laurel and the body covered in curly hair. In his inventory of the collection in 1907 Curator Walter Spiers added to the entry '?Nebuchadnezzar' as a possible identification. Nebuchadnezzar was the King of Babylon, remembered as the destroyer of Solomon's Temple. The bible, in the Old Testament, Book of Daniel, tells how he is humbled by God and endures a period of madness, liviing the beasts and wtih the whole of his body covered with hair.
