Frament of the left leg of a statue of a man.

Roman Empire

Pentelic marble

Height: 41cm, maximum

Museum number: M906

Vermeule catalogue number: Vermeule 397help-vermeule-catalogue-number

Curatorial note

A muscular, heavier-type leg such as those belonging to Imperial statues in military uniform or nude divinities; from the condition of the surface and the marble it is not inconceivable that this leg belongs with the hands described previously.

Provenance help-art-provenance

Unknown but in John Soane's collection by 1811 when it is shown in a watercolour view of his Museum.
