Curatorial note
This temple was known in Soane's day as the Temple of Jupiter Stator and the columns themselves frequently described as the 'Three columns in the campo vaccino' [the open area where cows graze].
Among the studies of casts in the collection made by Soane's pupils is a drawing of this capital by Mee dated August 28th 1818 (Vol. 83, 18).
