Curatorial note
Curators George Bailey (1837) and Walter Spiers (1906) described M1460 as ‘Model of a Trussed Beam and Joists’ in their respective Soane Museum inventories, but did not state for which building it had been made or when. There is however an account in the Soane Museum Archives that seems to refer to this model (SM Archive: Box 8, set XLVI, 42). It reads: ‘1816 The Bank. [Mr] Cooks Time for Making Model. Charged in Mr Martyr['s] Bill’ (Martyr was a carpenter-joiner). Then elaborates: ‘1816 To making a model of a Truss Girder and part of floor of the New Room at the Bank of England. By order of John Soane Esqr. From Decr 21st to 28th. To 6 Days…£1.16s…’.
