Cast of an egg or ovolo from a length of egg and dart moulding from an unidentified source

Plaster cast

Museum number: M1378

On display: Drawing Office - also known as the Students Room (pre-booked tours only)
All spaces are in No. 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields unless identified as in No. 12, Soane's first house. For tours https://www.soane.org/your-visit

Curatorial note

This is probably a cast from an antique Roman fragment of egg and dart moulding.

Interestingly, in its original location on the west wall of the Drawing Office or Students Room, this forms a symmetrical arrangement with another piece of egg and dart, perhaps fulfilling a didactic purpose for Soane's pupils.
