Cast of a fragment from an Antique frieze in the Colonna Gardens, Rome

Plaster cast

Museum number: M1247

Not on display

Curatorial note

This is a cast of part of a Roman frieze enriched with foliage and what seems to be a cow or a dog on the left.

The Colonna Gardens on the Quirinale hill in Rome are on the site of a Roman 3rd century AD temple often called the Temple of the Sun, temple of Serapis or as a result of more recent research, the Temple of Septimius Severus dedicated to Hercules and Dionysus. The Colonna family created fortifications and gardens here, adjacent to their Palace, from the 13th century onwards.
