Cast of the side panel of a Roman chariot or biga (Vatican Museum?)

Plaster cast

Museum number: M1243

Not on display

Curatorial note

Soane acquired casts of two adjoniing panels of this Roman chariot, M1243 and M1243.A. It is clear from examining them that they always were two separate items - the edges are all painted and clearly it is not one cast that has broken in two. The construction differs too, with M1243.A being reinforced with bamboo.

Associated items

M1243.A, other part
