Curatorial note

Full scale. Plaster. No drawing for this feature occurs among Soane’s decorative designs or in the folder of drawings (10/5) concerning the various alterations made by him to Sampson’s original Pay Hall between 1801 and 1831.

The model remains in the position it occupied in 1837, at the time of Soane's death, hanging under the shelf supporting Flaxman's figure of Sir Joshua Reynolds, appearing as if it is a decorative bracket
